Tim Veil is a software engineer and CIO at Two Bear Capital, where he builds and scales the data, analytics, and AI capabilities used across the firm and its portfolio companies. He architects modern data infrastructure, deploys AI-powered internal tools, and helps embed engineering best practices across portfolio teams to drive operational leverage.
Previously, Tim was VP of Solutions Engineering and Enablement at StarTree (the company behind Apache Pinot), Head of Sales Engineering at Cockroach Labs (creators of CockroachDB), Principal Solutions Engineer at OverOps, and an Enterprise Account Executive and Senior Solutions Engineer at Hortonworks. Earlier in his career he led software development at AdvancED, designed enterprise systems at Daugherty Business Solutions and SolTech, architected in-memory computing solutions at GridGain Systems, and started out as a senior consultant at Ernst & Young.
His core focus is distributed systems, data infrastructure, and developer tools — building things that make engineering teams faster and more reliable. He works comfortably across Java, Python, TypeScript, SQL, and SwiftUI, with hands-on experience in React, Next.js, Vite, Spring Boot, FastAPI, dbt, BigQuery, PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, Apache Pinot, Apache Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, Maven, Turborepo, and GitHub Actions. He holds a BBA in Management Information Systems and Finance from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia.
